About A Course In Miracles

I (mostly) recorded A Course In Miracles at the dearly departed Racoon Moon Studios with my co-writer/producer Simon Bridgefoot. We started out in 2019 with the intention to record the whole shebang with our regular cast of musical friends but y’all know what happened in 2020. Those friends did make appearances during temporary lifts on restrictions but mostly Simon and I made this record by ourselves. It took a long time and it was extremely hard. If you want to know more about it, join the mailing list, babe.

A Course In Miracles is a concept record about Sylvia, a suburbanite “witch” on the verge of a complete breakdown. Sylvia is a poster child for people who have reached a breaking point living within the world’s current “apocalyptic” conditions (e.g., climate change, techno-fascism, etc.). Deprived of substantial cultural traditions, they must cobble together their own spiritual solutions, which are often leveraged from dubious sources (e.g., old religious systems, new media-driven trends, etc.). Finally, Sylvia might just be my avatar, because my life kinda fell apart as I was making this album.

And now, to give credit where it’s due

NICE WORDS

Despite moments of emotional defeat, musically, Miracles is pure triumph. If Zone of Exclusion was kaleidoscopic, Miracles is telescopic: more focused and further-reaching in depth.
— Exclaim
Witko’s whole artistic practice pairs thoughtful pop music with performance art.
— Exclaim!
Through sparkly, pulsating synth lines, shuffling jungle beats, rock distortion, club-ready house rhythms, ghostly soundscapes and pounding piano that comes right out of musical theatre, Witko unpacks the chaos of everyday life with grit and charisma.
